Donald A. Grinde, Jr. specializes in Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) history, U.S. Indian policy since 1871, the history of Native American thought, and Native American environmental history. His books include Debating Democracy: Native American Legacy of Freedom (with B. Johansen), The Encyclopedia of Native American Biography: Six Hundred Life Stories of Important People, Exemplar of Liberty: Native America and the Evolution of Democracy (with B. Johansen), Apocalypse of Chiokoyhikiu, Chief of the Iroquois, and The Iroquois and the Founding of the American Nation.
